City of London School Sixth Form Centre

Education

As part of a wider strategic masterplan for City of London School for Boys, we have developed a series of internal and external design interventions that set out a clear, phased approach to transforming key student-facing spaces across the estate. The project redefines how pupils, staff, and visitors experience the school - from arrival, through circulation, to social and shared spaces - ensuring the environment reflects the quality, ambition, and values of CLS.

As part of the City of London School for Boys masterplan, these proposals establish a coherent design framework for a phased programme of improvements, focused on enhancing the student experience while strengthening the school’s competitive position among leading independent schools.

At the heart of the strategy is the rethinking of first impressions and daily movement through the building. Key arrival points - including the Pupil Entrance and the internal Arrivals & Bookshop sequence - are reimagined to be welcoming, intuitive, and legible. Previously constrained, visually dated spaces are opened up to improve light, visibility, and flow, creating calmer and more confident transitions between external and internal environments. Clear zoning, improved wayfinding, and refreshed finishes reinforce CLS identity from the moment pupils and visitors arrive.

The result is a cohesive, future-facing environment that celebrates CLS’s heritage while supporting academic excellence, student wellbeing, and long-term adaptability - ensuring the school continues to lead by example in both education and the quality of its built environment.
