Workspace

The Pavilions were the former regional headquarters of the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB), designed by Ove Arup in the 1970s. Overlooking the town of Bristol, surrounded by well-kept vegetation and today a Grade II listed gem. The building is now our client’s unique Bristol HQ.

Hermantes Studio have embarked on a comprehensive Workplace Strategy to assess staff & visitor needs, where the current Pavilions environment sits within their Global standards, assessment of building compliance, occupancy and infrastructure and proposals for future opportunities.

Having evolved over the years, the workspace environment requires a rethink and refresh to ensure both staff needs and the company values and culture are nurtured.  The building was specified and detailed for a long life, with high quality materials, including hardwood Iroko for the window frames, Spanish slate for the roofs and concrete blocks containing pulverised fuel ash from the CEGB’s own power stations.

One large Pavillion holds a 1970’s swimming pool below original ‘open cell’ or ‘egg crate’ ceilings, and amazing open workspace opportunities with views out to the surrounding, rolling landscape.

Workplace Strategy _ Staff Engagement Workshops

Hermantes Studio undertook a comprehensive Workplace Strategy across some 26no. departments (for both staff and leadership) to consciously explore and underpin what a fit-for-purpose office could look like and what the scale of opportunity might be.

Original 1970 Ove Arup Interiors

The original interiors featured the unique, exposed blockwork walls and planters and chamfered column detailing.

The original open cell ceilings and blockwork have since been removed &/or replaced with standard 600x600 mineral fibre grid ceilings and plasterboard walls. The Pavilions were Grade II Listed in 2015.
