Auditorium Intervention
WORKSPACE
The Adaptive Reuse of a converted, former bottling warehouse where a new Auditorium was carefully incorporated into a dense, open-plan workspace alongside an open Atrium. This approach preserved the building’s heritage while minimizing construction waste and adapting the space to meet contemporary requirements.
The design balanced the building’s historical features and existing services constraints whilst delivering high-functioning flexible space and high-performance acoustic design.
Designed to function as a modern conference space that can accommodate large presentations, meetings, and events. Its strategic location on the third floor, visible from all levels of the building, makes it an important focal point
The design for Springer Nature’s new Auditorium at their Kings Cross HQ, balanced the building’s historical features and existing services constraints whilst delivering high-functioning, flexible conference & event space and high-performance acoustic design. Its strategic location on the third floor, visible from all levels of the building, makes it an important focal point within the workspace.
The high acoustic delivery & performance to all atrium and void spaces of the selected location provided its fair share of challenges with regards to MEP services addition and work-arounds, existing crittal window performance and detailing. Sitting within a Conservation Area, a phased approach to the fitout and any supplementary MEP allowed for Planning Approval eventualities.
Sustainability is always a key driver for Springer Nature, with an ethos of Re-Use, Re-Cycle and Re-Purpose for their existing assets throughout their portfolio. From re-used & relocated furniture items and ceiling baffles to the reconfiguration of existing lighting.
