Springer Nature Refectory Transformation
From an uninspiring open plan office and dedicated ‘virtual first’ space, the basement of this former bottling warehouse was transformed into a vibrant destination Café & Deli for Springer Nature’s large workforce in their Kings Cross HQ. With the release of a historical Stables Building which housed the staff Refectory, space was found within SN’s remaining assets to bring its workforce together with a great food offer and ensuring adjacent space could be designed to house supporting prep kitchens and storage amenity.

Sitting below the waterline on Battle Bridge Basin off Regents Canal, these connected spaces now offer a refreshed and vibrant Café with great options for both individual and communal dining for staff to connect and take a break. Colour saturation of the existing exposed ceilings and services as well as warmer lighting levels were key to delivering a completely transformed environment.
The new spaces incorporate the complete reuse of existing loose furniture from other areas, and repurposed, existing linear office lighting re-spaced and dimmed with a complimentary mix of relocated feature pendants and key new pieces.
