JERSEY NHF

WELLBEING

The new 47,500sqm world-class Acute Hospital represents one of the largest public projects ever undertaken in Jersey, Channel Islands. The new design pursues an alternative healthcare delivery strategy to the former Our Hospital Project (OHP) and will deliver best practice healthcare to the Island.

Hermantes Studio is working in close collaboration with Llewelyn Davies, Lead Architect & Clinical Planners to deliver a comprehensive Interior Design strategy and user experience. The consultant team consists of LDA Design on an extensive landscaping & public realm programme; ARUP on transport, services & sustainability; Gleeds on Cost and T Projects, Arts Consultants.

The proposal comprises a Public Concourse, Retail unit and Food & Beverage offers, multiple Lift & Stairs Cores and Arrivals spaces, an A&E Department, Critical Care Unit, Operating Theatres, Maternity & Paediatrics Departments, eighty bed Inpatient Wards and a Private Inpatient Wing.

The design will provide a high-quality facility moving away from a conventional, clinical aesthetic and instead fostering a calm, human-centred environment that supports wellbeing, recovery, and long-term community health. Due to the size and significance of the project, ongoing engagement with Islanders, Politicians, Local Groups and Consultant Teams has been undertaken.

Informed by the hospital’s prominent location overlooking le Val d’Andre and its connection to the Island’s historic and natural landmarks, the site-wide interior strategy is underpinned by the Nature of Jersey. This has informed a cohesive materials palette and an intuitive wayfinding approach. Sustainability, longevity and future flexibility were integral to every design decision.
